Born on September 5, 1977, Nuru left Kenya at 19 to study business strategy at Kennesaw State University in the United States. She worked in campus catering to support herself and eventually secured an internship at Edelman PR, where she discovered her passion for strategic communication.


💼 A Career That Transformed Kenya’s Banking Sector

Nuru held leadership roles at global institutions, including Barclays Bank Kenya (now Absa), before joining the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) as Director of Public Affairs and Sustainable Finance.

While at KBA, she:

  • Spearheaded East and Central Africa’s first certified green bond

Despite her illness, she remained intellectually active, continuing to mentor and lead until the very end.
