MTN Uganda Defies Headwinds with Double-Digit H1 Growth

Kampala, Uganda — MTN Uganda H1 2025 revenue growth surged 13.1% year-on-year, fueled by booming mobile data usage and rapid adoption of mobile money (MoMo) services. The results highlight the company’s resilience against Uganda’s tax pressures and shifting regulations.

Data Boom Reshapes Earnings

Mobile internet services drove the fastest gains, with data revenue jumping 31.3%. Rising smartphone adoption in Africa and expanded 4G coverage boosted subscriptions and lifted average revenue per user (ARPU). MTN’s rural network upgrades also brought millions more online, strengthening its digital footprint.

Mobile Money Momentum

MoMo transactions climbed 20.3%, cementing MTN Uganda’s role in financial inclusion efforts. The platform processed record transaction volumes, reflecting Uganda’s growing reliance on digital payments for everyday life. Analysts say this performance underpins the telecom’s long-term growth outlook.

Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge credited the strong results to disciplined execution.
“Our results show the resilience of our strategy and the commitment of our team in navigating an evolving market environment,” she said.
