Nairobi, Kenya – June 2025
In 2006, Andrew Muthee Gitau, who climbed the corporate ladder at Coca‑Cola, Airtel, and Procter & Gamble, traded life as an international executive for a mission: to reform Kenya’s land ownership sector after being defrauded on a property purchase.

🌍 A Personal Betrayal Sparks a Mission in Kiambu

While wearing sharp suits in New York City, Gitau learned his friend in Kenya had stolen funds intended to purchase land in Kiambu. That betrayal prompted him to act.

“I knew millions of Kenyans had been conned like me,” Gitau reflects from his Nairobi office. “I saw a business opportunity in solving this pain.”

This pivotal moment drove him to launch AMG Realtors Ltd in 2012, aiming to restore trust in property transactions through transparency and heritage.

🏞️ From Gikambura Roots to Land-Tech Innovation

Born in Gikambura, Kiambu County, Gitau witnessed his mother’s struggle to secure a small plot of land—an experience that shaped his values around land ownership and legacy.

After earning a Marketing degree and advancing in global firms, Gitau returned to Kenya, briefly joined his father’s car-import business, and soon discovered his true calling when he sold 25 acres in Nanyuki within 30 days.

🏢 AMG Realtors: A Trust-Driven Enterprise

Gitau founded AMG Realtors without upfront capital or land inventory. Instead, he offered:

  • Verified and titled land, ensured by legal due diligence
  • A 60–90 day title guarantee, backed by a refund policy
  • Advanced tools like GIS mapping, drone surveys, and a digitized tracking system

AMG now operates across Kiambu, Nakuru, Laikipia, Machakos, Kajiado, and Nanyuki, employing 60+ staff to deliver “bankable, legacy-grade land.”

🌐 Diaspora Remittances: Powering AMG’s Growth

Kenya received US$4.2 billion in remittances in 2023, much of it directed at land and housing. Recognizing this, AMG launched “Kenya One” roadshows in Dallas, London, Atlanta, and Dubai to appeal to diaspora trust.

“Kenyans abroad want more than photos; they want assurance their money is safe,” Gitau explains. Today, 60% of AMG’s clients are based outside Kenya.

🛡️ Overcoming Cartels, Corruption & Skepticism

Gitau overcame relentless pushback:

  • Bank loan refusals and intimidation by corrupt land cartels
  • County officials’ bribery attempts
  • Public doubt: “Land is for the politically connected,” people would say.

Despite this, he held firm: Integrity, resilience, and empathy formed AMG’s foundation. They also underpin his mentorship of over 200 youth through AMG’s business incubator.

🌟 Vision 2030: From Plots to Communities

Looking ahead, Gitau aims to transition AMG from a land broker to a real estate developer, building serviced, affordable gated estates with roads, power, water, and green infrastructure—first in Kenya, then expanding into Uganda and Tanzania.

“If we can do land right, why not full communities?” Gitau asks.

Above all, he wants AMG’s legacy to be dignity, not luxury.
