DAR ES SALAAM – March 28, 2025Ambassador Juma Volter Mwapachu, the distinguished Tanzanian diplomat and former Secretary-General of the East African Community (EAC), has died at the age of 82. He passed away while receiving treatment at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam.


🎓 Early Life and Education

Born on September 27, 1942, in Mwanza, Tanzania, Mwapachu studied law at the University of Dar es Salaam, graduating in 1969. He later pursued a postgraduate diploma in international law and diplomacy at the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy in New Delhi.

In 2005, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Literature degree by the University of Dar es Salaam in recognition of his contributions to public life in Tanzania.
